3. The best machine for oat milk
Plant-based milk, and oat milk in particular, has become a fixture in the modern workplace. More and more employees are choosing lactose-free or more sustainable alternatives. The question is: how do both machines handle it?
The challenge of oat milk
Oat milk contains relatively little protein and more carbohydrates than cow’s milk, which means it foams less stably than whole milk. In addition, oat milk contains sediment; shaking it well before use is essential. If the milk is too thick due to sediment, the system may splatter and the foam quality drops.
Franke A600 and oat milk
The Franke A600 with FoamMaster™ has an advantage here because the foam consistency and temperature can be set individually per drink, making it easier to tune to the properties of oat milk. Franke explicitly positions the A600 as suitable for both dairy and plant-based alternatives, and the cold foam option fits cold oat milk applications.
WMF 1500S and oat milk
The WMF 1500S is compatible with various types of milk and, thanks to the multiple foam consistencies of Dynamic Milk, can also handle plant-based milk. The system is not specifically optimised for oat milk, but the choice of hot and cold consistencies provides room in practice to find an acceptable result.
Practical advice applies to both machines: always use the barista variant of oat milk, shake the carton well before use and make sure the milk is chilled (2–5 degrees Celsius).
| ✔ Winner: Franke A600 (with FoamMaster™)
The per-drink adjustable foam consistency and the explicit positioning for plant-based milk give the Franke A600 a slight edge. Here too: the difference is small, and barista oat milk remains a requirement for the best result on both machines. |
